Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Runway 6L-24R Safety Area Improvements
Los Angeles World Airports
Runway 6R-24L on the north side of LAX required safety area improvements to provide a measure of safety in the event of an aircraft’s excursion from the runway. Orion was selected to provide construction engineering services for this multi-year project. Through on-site construction administration and design support, Orion provided environmentally friendly solutions resulting in improved aircraft and passenger safety.
Orion extended Runway 6R-24L (10,885’ x 150’ PCC CAT VI) and Taxiway Echo 800’ and used declared distances to achieve an FAA compliant runway safety area. Lengthening of the runway required a reconfiguration of the connecting taxiways. The runway and taxiway pavements were constructed of PCC pavement.
