Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport (KOA) South Ramp Taxiway and Ramp Improvements
Hawaii Department of Transportation – Airports Division
This project extended an existing taxilane to the new General Aviation (GA) apron with aircraft tie-downs and new T-Hangar buildings. The apron was designed to accommodate the existing GA fleet mix including Group I and Group II aircraft as well as future planned expansion to accommodate Group III aircraft. A new public access road with utilities, including waterline, fire water, landscape irrigation, and electrical for street lighting, was designed to replace public access cut-off by the taxilane extension. Orion coordinated with multiple design disciplines, including public involvement with stakeholders, permitting (NPDES and SWPPP), along with the preparation of project plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
